Things to do in Koper with kids

Are you planning a family vacation in the magical city of Koper in Istria? Or would you rather just go on a day trip to the Slovenian coast?

Koper, with its rich history, picturesque landscapes and child-friendly attractions, is the ideal destination for an unforgettable family adventure. Whether you have toddlers, children or teenagers, this charming seaside town offers something special for every age group. So let's take a look at things to do in Koper with kids!

Exploring a Historic Ancient City

Start your journey in the heart of Koper, the old town. With its narrow cobbled streets and ancient architecture, a walk through the city is like a journey back in time. Children will enjoy observing various historical landmarks such as the Praetorian Palace, the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the Del Ponte Fountain.

Tip: People usually avoid cities during the hottest part of the day, so it's hard to say that visiting a city in the summer is a good idea. But locals in coastal towns know how to find the coolest way from place A to place B. They always choose the side of each street where the sun is not shining. This can quickly become an interesting game for children 😉.

If you want even more fun and involvement of your children, you can also consider the interactive guide that we offer. The Winged Cat Challenge is a family adventure that reveals historical landmarks to you in a fun way. In the company of the winged cat, you will explore the city's landmarks, find a magic spell, save the city of Koper and lick ice cream as a reward.

Koper = Fun and games

With many new developments, Koper has a lot of sports areas at its disposal, so there will be something for every child (even the big ones 😁). In addition to "traditional" sports (including water sports), there is a skate park, beach volleyball, trampolines, water fountains and the list goes on. Most of them extend from the Bonifika sports park to the new beach in Žusterna.

Tip: a lesser-known fact is that there is an underpass at the end of the dog beach, where there are very interesting graffiti that will surely fascinate your children.

On a bike or scooter

The road between Koper and Izola is perfect for short trips. Whether by bike, scooter, rollerblades,... or just on foot. If you want to go a little further, go on a family-friendly cycling adventure along the picturesque Parenzana. This former railway line connects Koper with the nearby towns of Izola and Piran, and offers breathtaking views of the Istrian countryside. The route is mostly flat and suitable for all ages, making it an ideal activity for families with children of all ages.

In Koper you can also rent all the above-described means of transport. In addition to many bike rental shops, electric scooters are also available. This year, the already established Bolt scooter range has been joined by Kvik scooters. These are a little wider at the front, if you are not yet used to this means of transport.

You will also find smaller beaches along the road, which makes a hot day even more fun. There is nothing better than jumping into the sea with the wind in your hair 🏖.

Things to do in Koper with kids in winter?

In winter, Koper can be found in the well-known Wonderland (as part of Fantazima), where Koper is transformed into a home to various animals and numerous lights. The offer depends somewhat on the winter, but there is usually also an ice rink. In short, it could be said that Koper has everything that the "big ones" have even in winter.
