Koper - Capodistria
The head of Istria

Koper is the largest city in Slovenian Istria, with a rich history dating back to the Middle Bronze Age. Once an island, the city has experienced various rules and names, until its present name, which it maintains as a bilingual area.

During the time of the Venetian Republic, Koper was the center of economic and cultural prosperity, which is still evident in the preserved city architecture. After different periods of rule, Koper was part of Yugoslavia and since 1991, it belongs to the independent state of the Republic of Slovenia. The city is home to the only Slovenian port and hosts one of Slovenia's universities.
